Meet Nancy Artinian.

Nancy has spent her life caring for others—with skill, heart, and unwavering commitment. Now, she and her family are praying for an angel who may be willing to extend that same

gift of life to her.

Please share Nancy’s story!

Nancy's Story.

For over 50 years, Nancy has dedicated her life to nursing, serving as a caregiver, teacher, researcher, and mentor. Her journey began at the bedside as a staff and ICU nurse, where she learned firsthand about the courage, compassion, and resilience that patients and their families bring to moments of crisis. Those early experiences inspired her to dedicate her career not only to caring for patients, but also to preparing future generations of nurses to do the same.

Since 1978, Nancy has been a professor of nursing, a role she calls both a privilege and a calling. For decades, she taught and mentored hundreds of nursing students, many of whom went on to transform patient care in their own communities. She is now Professor Emerita at Wayne State University College of Nursing, where she also served as Director of the Doctoral and Postdoctoral Program, Associate Dean for Research, and Interim Dean. Today, she continues this work as a Visiting Professor at Michigan State University College of Nursing, guiding PhD students through research and grant development.

Her research has always centered on the heart. Literally and figuratively. Nancy has been the principal investigator and co-investigator on projects funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the National Institute on Aging, exploring how to improve heart health, reduce cardiovascular risk, and support patients and their families. She has contributed to more than 70 peer-reviewed articles and presented widely on topics such as blood pressure control in African Americans, telehealth strategies for heart health, medication adherence in older adults, and the challenges spouses face when caring for loved ones after cardiac surgery.

Her contributions have earned her recognition as a Fellow of the American Heart Association, the American Academy of Nursing, and the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association.

Among her many honors, she is especially proud of receiving the Katherine A. Lembright Award from the American Heart Association, which recognized her lifetime commitment to cardiovascular nursing and research.

Yet beyond titles and awards, Nancy’s legacy lives in her students, colleagues, and the countless lives touched by her work. She often says that teaching has been one of the greatest joys of her life—the chance to invest in others and

watch them carry the torch of nursing forward.

Devoted to her Faith and Community.

Outside of nursing, Nancy is devoted to her faith and community. She supports St. Vincent de Paul outreach programs and helps with her husband’s long-standing church music ministry for people with special needs. She also treasures her 45 years of marriage, a partnership that has been the foundation of her life.
